The Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology Surat is popularly known as National Institute of Technology Surat (NIT Surat) or SVNIT Surat, is an engineering institute of higher education established by the Parliament of India in 1961. It is one of 30 National Institutes of Technology in India recognized by the Government of India as an Institute of National Importance. SVNIT was ranked 61 among Top 100 Engineering colleges in India by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2019.
SVNIT Surat was established in the year 1961 as Regional College of Engineering, Surat in a joint venture between the Government of Gujrat and Government of India. Later in 2002, the college was upgraded to Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat. In the same year, the college was granted Deemed University Status with the approval of the University Grants Commission.
